Sounds of Silence

They say silence is a source of great strength; so can it be for weakness. When words are replaced with silence, not always does it remain pleasant and comfortable. Sometimes, it haunts with loud shudders of the heart. Yeah, silence has a real sound that is capable of turning truths into lies and projecting illusions as realities. It’s exhausting to the core.

There’s work throughout the day and not enough sleep at night. There are words swallowed and peace slain. The deepest feelings begin to unnerve. Why am I enervated? Is it because of the draining days and sleepless nights? Am I following a dream I didn’t choose to? Am I missing something that I can’t hold? Am I fleeing from my own thoughts? Is what I am running from, the one that I should be running towards? The answers are truly blurred.

The Turns

As the wheels turn, she feels both strong and weak. Riding uphill, she found the freedom that flying didn’t offer.

She wished the clock turned back, to leave those words unsaid, so that their relationship wouldn’t have taken that turn.

His solicitude followed her in all turns of their lives; Both returned back to normal, but that’s a new normal.

The last two tiny tales above can be read collectively or also be treated as individual ones.

Circle of Life

The word “wee”, the prompt for SoCS this week, led me straight to a YouTube video. “The lion sleeps tonight” is my go-to song whenever I have a bad mood. Having watched both versions of “The Lion King” movie, this is one of my two favorite parts of the remake. Weembaway (YouTube link to the song sequence; embed available at the bottom) – at least that’s how I pronounce it – is always joyful to listen to as well watch.

The last time I watched this song, it gave me quite different vibes than the usual. Maybe, what I saw was influenced by my state of mind.

When the ambiance around is good, so many friends stay around the singing Pumba and Timon to enjoy the music. But when in danger, only Timon stays. Even if he can’t help Pumba, he’s the one who encourages him to run for life – “Run, Pumba, Run!”, “I’m coming, Pumba. Hang in there”, he keeps calling as he himself is running. Also, Pumba doesn’t fail to warn his friend even when he’s in a trap – “Run for your life”, he shouts and only then starts his run. Maybe moral support is what we all need in life!

Nala interrupts the best scene in the woods. Life is always such, pulls a brake when everything is so smooth and happy. How easier life would’ve been had Nala not entered the forest! Maybe that’s the perfectly right time or the perfectly wrong one. Who knows?

Story Of Their Lives

Lakhs of people know his struggles, conflicts, and growth, but not the members of his home. They consider it fiction!

Eight months of marriage; now, a widow; she started writing her own story with remains of what the society pricked.

Blue Cures Blue

once in a blue moon
sadness burdens to harass
freaking aches of heart

demented brain dithers
seized in between the demon
and the deep blue sea

water bed offers
an escape from feeling blue
satiating sorrowed souls

zest of parted friends
oceanic quest quenched offering
a whale of a time

blue ocean ripples
ambience of silent zen
calms mind and body

radiant smiles flare
under the infinite sky
serenity unfurls Continue reading

Enduring Friendship

To respect lock-down,
they maintain distance.
They stay so far,
with hearts so near.

They share myriads,
of vast similarities.
He loves serenity.
So, she chose blue.

She gives him his space.
He doesn’t dig her secrets.
She gets mood swings.
Accordingly, he adjusts his hues.

He has infinite dreams,
wanting to live among immortals.
She’s a fathomless wonder,
finding happiness in the mortals.

Days get tough,
but they don’t break.
They connect through rays,
when clouds hinder their ways.

When she gets rough,
he stands by.
When he pours out,
she buries them deep.

He’s imaginary,
with limits undefined.
She’s real,
with depths unexplored.

She’s the oceanic sphere,
who remains the ‘Reily’ of his life.
He’s the celestial sphere,
the ‘Bing Bong’ of her life.

They welcome intrepid guests,
also accompany far-flung loners.
This is a never ending tale
of two complex cosmic cronies.

To friends who are aloof,
they stand proof
stating friendship can exist
beyond all sort of differences!

Cheers!

This is a response post to the ‘Thursday Poetry Competition by ‘Penable’. The topic assigned is ‘Friendship’.

In this metaphorical free verse, I’ve drawn an analogy of the sky and ocean, to relate with friends who stay strong even with wider differences in aspirations and lifestyle.

Thoughtful Thursday

Here’s one of my favourite quotes.

Once you let go of your Morals,
Everything becomes Funny.

– David Hayden

Reading this, I was thinking of the recent bitter encounters with my closer circle. Some made me smile and a thought on few others, even made those situations lighter and funny. This was when I let go the grudges against the person or slightly swayed from my firm stand. Continue reading

Explore the ‘SOUND of SILENCE’

An awfully silent weekend! For many of us, silence after a long tiresome week may seem better. But it’s the reverse for me, may be because I happened to be the one & only child of my family. I consider time worthy at most times, only when a lot of people involve, or at least those eye-candies of mine. It all depends on who we are, and where we’ve been. Its some sort of mirror that shows our inner self.

My friends often describe me a funny chatterbox, which few others may find contradictory too! Most cherished Friday after very long gap! Lunch break – only Freak Out hour for day scholars. As you can guess, Continue reading
