Support Stake

Can’t claim to know those eyes
but I feel, their warm glimpse.
Can’t imagine the unseen face
but with it, I share a smile.

In this fleeting world
I struggle, to balance the float.
With a kind radiance
someone presents, a string of support.

They say some are for you
while some are not.
If family is a supportive group
can strangers be family too?

Have your dreams ever been supported by a person you’ve hardly spoken to or met? If yes, I bet that must have felt great. This free verse is a little tribute to such angels in the dark.

Dreams Take Flight

Have you had a night full of peaceful sleep that your eyelids just refuse to open, in spite of you being inspired with dreams of hope to have a productive day? I just had one such today. At such times, which dreams will you let take flight – the dreams of the night or those of the day? Today, sadly for me, it was the former.

Here are two takes on the same thought; each one is a verse of the poetic form – Naani.

——– Take 1 ——–

Her eyelids refuse
to leave the bed of peace,
impeding determined dreams
when it's time to take a flight.

Kill the Honour

Is it not time we kill those man-made social constructs like religion, race, caste, and class in which humans still hide their inexistent honour? Emphasizing this thought, this free verse is written with six words in each line, and a six-word story is quoted at the end.

Disparaging sanity of love, honour glows.
The crushed dreams fuel its fire.

Pursuit of Heartbreak

It’s easy to pop a balloon, but not break the brick wall. My heart is now a conglomeration of bricks. With time, it got stronger and stronger and is getting more harder to break. But, I keep trying clinging on the rope of hope, creeping through subdued shadows, to break it someday.

Yeah, you heard it right. I am in pursuit of an intentional heartbreak. How will it open until it is not broken? Only when it breaks and aches, I believe there’ll be ways that let in rays for an alternative exploration.

Delete – Six Word Story #27

The six-word story below pictures the life of someone who knows there’s no plan B for passion, but still, deletes her digital study materials. Only she knows if she did it with the gratification of achieving or the regret of missing her dream.

Deleted study notes…

Gratification or Regret?

Credits & Footnote

Quote Of The Week

Solitude

To my left is an open window. Caged in, I let my memories wander.

Night life rushes to the front. When it’s night, why’s there light? Staring through the window at the beauty of the moon, I’ve had sleepless nights with music by my side; Lights from roads have haunted me resulting in recurrent dreams for more than a fortnight.

When it’s bright, all I see are members of the animal kingdom – the chirping birds that pluck out plants from the hanging pots; a cow that chased when I carried a heavy school bag; squirrels that get around the climber and disturb my nap by cracking open walnut shells over the compound walls; a distant well surrounded by coconut and toddy palms – a comfortable resting place of woodpeckers and Baya weavers.

Dream Comes Alive

“She was distressed looking at the slow-moving days until her victorious move on the dais was recorded in slow motion.

This one-liner is written as an attempt to combine this as well as previous weeks’ prompt words for TWT – dream, slow motion, and quarantine.

Clouded Thoughts

I ran to the moors chasing a rabbit. Thunder distracted me. I looked at the sky and stood there awestruck by the beauty of the mountains that were capped by dark clouds.

It started to drizzle. It felt good. I didn’t want to move. Hoping to spot a rainbow, I missed another rabbit, this time the one in the form of bubbled clouds, that crossed my path.

So is life. We chase our dreams and get stuck without working for them when there’s a distraction. Continue reading

Sacrifice

She’s an adept player who knows the nuances of the game. Indeed, she finds it strategical, imbibing philosophies of life.

But, she just doesn’t understand why is it always the queen who has to die for her king?

This is in response to the ‘Weekend Writing Prompt’ by Sammi Cox. The word prompt for this week is ‘Nuance’, and the challenge is to limit a piece of prose or poem to exactly 38 words.

Hinterland

Mark made sure to visit countryside, the ones whose zip codes have been forgotten long ago, annually after his retirement. His grandson Marcus was puzzled by this behaviour and wanted to know why Mark chose remote areas instead of tourist destinations.

Determined, he made Mark wait until his vacation and accompanied him. Mark took him to a land so far from their residence which Marcus had never dreamt existed in his country.

Awestruck by its beauty, he started apprehending the strange hinterland hidden in his grandpa’s heart.

Leave – Six Word Stories #10

This is in response to ‘The Saturday Six Word Story Prompt’ by Shweta of ‘My Random Ramblings’. The prompt for this week is ‘Leave’. I was left alone with boredom and so there are quite many six-word stories on ‘Leave’.

Leaves are equally anticipated and hated!

Eyes rewind memories when leaving school.

Farewell – none wanted to leave home!

Leave your burdens to fly high.

Don’t leave heavy words remain unsaid!
