This is a free verse, each line framed with six words, comparing balloons with human lives. A six-word story is quoted at the end.

We are balloons filled with emotions,
Attached to strings yet flying freely!

Unable to hold on, we lift.
Hoping to let go, we fly.

But get burst, exploding into memories.

Like balloons, we are illusions too.
Conscious of burst, we still exist.

Our life is an absolute lie.
But, it's also an undeniable truth.

An illusion to cheer up!

The free verse written above is inspired by the lyrics (below) of two different Tamil songs that contradict each other.

காயமே இது பொய்யடா
வெறும் காற்றடைத்த பையடா

Human existence is an illusion. Our body is just an air-filled bag.

காயமே இது மெய்யடா
அதில் கண்ணும் கருத்தும் வையடா

Human existence is real. And so, our body should be taken good care of.

The former is a philosophical verse that prompts one to stay detached from worldly pleasures and possessions, keeping in mind our existence is temporary. While the latter urges one to acknowledge our existence as a human, to focus more on health and care about nurturing the body.

Inspired by  Shweta’s ‘The Saturday Six Word Story’  prompt – ‘Balloon’.

I agree. Fantastic free verse poetry. Filled with emotions but are afraid to get burst. And our reactions are so much similar when we are in possession of one.

  2. I sincerely enjoyed this poem, so much that I’ve bookmarked it so that I can continue to return and read it. I love the idea of viewing life this way. When you think about life’s passing nature, it helps you to appreciate every moment more and reminds you not to get hung up on the little things. But it’s also important to remember that our emotions and actions have impact – your poem reflects all of this. Also, beautiful use of rythym, enjambment, and contrast. ❤

    2. Thanks so much! ❤ It’s always a pleasure to write for your prompt. It’s my favorite among all prompts I chose to write.

I’ve missed it for quite a lot of weeks too. That’s why I’m taking up the missed ones now.

There’s no need to be sorry at all, Shweta. We all get unexpected commitments and at such times, we might have to squeeze our schedules. We’d love if you choose to resume.

  4. Awww! That means a lot, Anisha. Thank you so much.

It’s been almost four months. Life has been hectic. I got married in January. It took me a while to get my schedule back to normal. Blogging took a back seat. I hope I can expect your participation for the 6WSP 😃
