Hinterland

Mark made sure to visit countryside, the ones whose zip codes have been forgotten long ago, annually after his retirement. His grandson Marcus was puzzled by this behaviour and wanted to know why Mark chose remote areas instead of tourist destinations.

Determined, he made Mark wait until his vacation and accompanied him. Mark took him to a land so far from their residence which Marcus had never dreamt existed in his country.

Awestruck by its beauty, he started apprehending the strange hinterland hidden in his grandpa’s heart.

This is in response to the ‘Weekend Writing Prompt’ by Sammi Cox. The word prompt for this week is ‘Hinterland’, and the challenge is to limit a piece of prose or poem to exactly 87 words.
